If you are a practicing bronchoscopist, you will increase your procedural knowledge of advances in bronchoscopy techniques through this hands-on training.
Bronchoscopy has been rapidly evolving with the addition of several new techniques and instruments for general and interventional pulmonologists. Endobronchial ultrasound has been a game-changing technology that now is scaling into general pulmonary practice, having once been almost solely in the realm of Interventional pulmonary medicine.
We give participants who may have had some exposure and limited training with EBUS an opportunity to work with experts in a high-volume environment to critique and improve their skills. We also offer instant feedback from onsite cytopathology.
Upon completion, participants should have a working knowledge of the techniques and kinds of procedures they can be comfortable doing and a sense of what skills they need to improve to fully impliment EBUS into their current practice.
This program is offered under the preceptorship of Thomas Gildea, MD, and Michael Machuzak, MD, staff physicians with the Cleveland Clinic Department of Pulmonary, Allergy & Critical Care Medicine. Francisco Almeida, MD, MS, and Joseph Cicenia, MD, also participate in the program, contributing their individual case volumes.

During this two-week program, you will observe and perform selected EBUS bronchoscopy procedures. Each participant has an opportunity to perform up to four procedures per day during the training period.
The highest volume procedure is EBUS, and each participant may have an opportunity to perform this procedure several times during the training period.
Topics of discussion and procedures that can be observed include:
-
Transbronchial biopsy
-
Endobronchial electrosurgery
-
Laser brachytherapy
-
Rigid bronchoscopy
-
Stent placements
-
Navigational bronchoscopy
